Howl in the darkness woman! For your young is gone and nobody’s watching. Nobody’s waiting.
Howl into the house woman as the walls close in and you discover the taste of the off-white paint that you smeared the kitchen cupboards with to neatly declare your place as WIFE.
Howl at the old men who tut and coo and can’t and don’t and will not understand that an ox sits upon your tongue. In your womb. Heavy and panting. Bigger than the ship that sails back to you bearing your husband like prey.
Howl! As you draw yourself up. Become the mortar and bricks. Rattle the windows. Beat the doors. They are your wings, rising into the darkness. Howl. Take a knife from the kitchen and his boots from the stairs and wait. The whole house is with you woman!
Crouched, waiting, breathing.
One day.
One day.
Agamemnon will come home.
