HANNAH LAX
Hannah Lax is a South African theatre director and designer. She has worked both nationally and internationally over the past ten years. She holds a Master of Arts in Directing from Rhodes University, South Africa and a Master of Fine Arts in Scenic and Costume Design from Tulane University in New Orleans.
Hannah specializes in devised theatre. Her work is centred on innovative collaboration and visual storytelling that interrogates process, narrative, and space.
Hannah has received numerous awards for her theatrical work including the Stevie Dawson Memorial Award for Excellence in Technical Theatre, the Cape Triangular Trophy for her work Solo in 2014 and a Standard Bank Ovation Award for her collaborative work with choreographer Lexi Meier in Meier's 2016 work Fabric of the Universe at the South African National Arts Festival. She has worked with a variety of people, in an array of places. These include Bread and Puppet Theatre, Université de Toulouse-Le Mirail, The New Orleans Shakespeare Festival, Summer Lyric Theatre, The New Orleans Opera Association, Le Petit Theatre, Loyola University New Orleans, The Radical Buffoons, BodyArt, First Physical Theatre Company and Ubom! Eastern Cape Drama Company.
She is based in New Orleans where she freelances as a designer, director and illustrator.
